I am involved in a couple of long-term volunteer activities at the moment, both of which can use a lot more help — so consider joining if you are in the area and have the time.

As a trail runner, I give a little bit back by helping maintain our local trails with the Scorpion Crew, which is part of the High Cascade Forest Volunteers nonprofit organization. Trail maintenance is always a lot of fun, a never-ending learning experience, and an amazing workout. New volunteers are always welcome!

I am also a member of the Lane County Sherif’s ground search and rescue team, which recruits new members each fall (November-December). While less predictable than trail work, search and rescue is incredibly rewarding..
